Hong Kong and Macau
Hong Kong has sealed six of its 14 border crossings with the mainland as part of efforts to reduce the number of people arriving.
Visitors from Hubei – the central Chinese province of which Wuhan is the capital – and people who have visited the area are banned from entry. Flights to and from the mainland have been halved, while Beijing has stopped issuing permits for mainlanders travelling individually and in tour groups to Hong Kong.
Macau has banned the entry of Wuhan and Hubei residents without a medical declaration stating they are not carrying the virus. All other visitors to the city are being required to fill out health declaration forms. More than 100 flights to the mainland and Taiwan from Macau have been cancelled.
Taiwan
Taiwan slapped an entry ban to residents of Hubei as well as those from the southern Guangdong province. It won’t rule out extending the ban to more Chinese provinces if necessary.
Mandarin Airlines suspended flights from Taiwan to Wuhan until the end of February.
Singapore
Singapore blocked the entry and transit of people who had travelled to mainland China in the previous 14 days. Visas of Chinese citizens to visit Singapore have been suspended, including those already issued.
Singapore Airlines and SilkAir said they would reduce their frequency of service to mainland China in February due to the entry restrictions issued by the local authorities.
Indonesia
Indonesia is temporarily banning flights to and from mainland China from February 3 and won’t allow those who have been there in recent weeks to enter or transit.
The government has suspended free visa and visa-on-arrival services for Chinese citizens living in the mainland and called on Indonesians to temporarily stop travelling there.
Indonesia has five domestic airlines flying to China: Garuda Indonesia, Citilink Indonesia, Lion Mentari Airlines, Sriwijaya Air and Batik Air Indonesia. The temporary flight ban applies to foreign airlines flying from China to Indonesia, including for transit.
Philippines
The Philippines widened a travel ban previously imposed on visitors from Hubei province to all of China, including Hong Kong and Macau, while prohibiting Filipinos from travelling to those areas.
Malaysia
Malaysia has suspended all visa-on-arrivals for travellers arriving from Hubei.
South Korea
From February 4, South Korea will temporarily ban foreigners who have visited or stayed in Hubei within 14 days of entering. Seoul will also suspend its no-visa favour for Chinese tourists to Jeju Island for now. South Korea is also suspending tourism to China.
Korean Air is stopping flights to Wuhan until February 22 and will reduce services on other mainland China routes. Air Seoul suspended flights indefinitely between Incheon and the Chinese cities of Zhangjiajie and Linyi.
Japan
Japan has urged its citizens not to travel to China. It has barred entry to people with symptoms of the coronavirus.
Vietnam
Vietnam ordered companies to stop accepting Chinese workers returning to the country after the Lunar New Year holiday. The suspension also applies to foreign workers travelling through Chinese regions affected by the outbreak.
The aviation authority cancelled all flight permits and suspended new flight licenses for airlines operating between the country and China.
Australia
Australia will deny entry to anyone arriving from mainland China, except for Australian citizens, residents or their family members, and aircrew. It has also warned against any travel to all of mainland China.
Australia’s largest airline Qantas Airways will suspend services to mainland China from February 9.
New Zealand
New Zealand will deny entry to foreigners travelling from mainland China. The ban, effective February 3, covers anyone who is travelling from or has transited through China, and will last up to 14 days.
It has also raised its travel advice about all of mainland China to “do not travel,” the highest level.
Air New Zealand will cut its Shanghai service from daily to four times a week from February 18 to March 31
India
India said Chinese passport holders and those who reside in China who have electronic visas to India won’t be able to enter.
Air India and IndiGo have suspended flights between some Indian cities and China.
Bangladesh
Bangladesh has temporarily suspended visa-on-arrival services for travellers from China.
“We have suspended the privilege for a month,” Foreign Minister Abul Kalam Abdul Momen said.
Chinese nationals can usually acquire visas on reaching Bangladesh but now will have to obtain visas before travelling, the minister said.
Potential Chinese visitors will have to submit health certificates when applying for Bangladeshi visas, he said.
Pakistan
Pakistan said on Monday it is resuming flights to and from China, days after it suspended them.
“We are resuming flight operations with China, a China Southern Airlines flight with 145 passengers on board will land at 9 am at Islamabad International Airport on Monday,” additional secretary of aviation Abdul Sattar Khokhar said.
Islamabad had delayed opening its northern border with China, while Karachi Port Trust, operator of nation’s largest port, had asked immigration authorities not to allow crew on foreign vessels to disembark.
Nepal
Nepal closed its Rasuwagadhi checkpoint on the Chinese border for 15 days starting January 29.
Myanmar
Myanmar said it will suspend the issuance of visas-on-arrival for all visitors from China.
North Korea
North Korea shut its borders to visitors from China on January 22.
Mongolia
Mongolia closed its border with China until March 2.
Papua New Guinea
Papua New Guinea shut its air and seaports on January 29 to all foreign travellers coming from Asia. The impoverished nation also shut its only land border with the Indonesia-controlled province of West Papua.
US and Canada
The US is temporarily barring entry to foreign nationals who have visited China and pose a risk of spreading the illness, unless they are immediate relatives of US citizens or permanent residents. Flights from China would be funnelled through just seven US airports.
The State Department issued its highest level do-not-travel advisory for China.
Delta Air Lines and American Airlines suspended all flights to China to as late as the end of April. United Airlines will suspend service to Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu from February 6.
Canada advised citizens to avoid non-essential travel to China.
Air Canada has halted flights to Beijing and Shanghai. The suspension is expected to last until February 29.
Europe
Finnair will cancel all flights to and from mainland China between February 6 and February 29
France urged citizens not to travel to China.
Air France will exit China until February 9.
Lufthansa suspended services to China until February 9.
Italy suspended all flights from China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan until April 28.
KLM suspended direct flights to some Chinese cities and reduced the number of weekly flights to Shanghai.
Spain’s Iberia Airways suspended its flight to Shanghai, the only route it operates to China, through February.
British Airways halted daily routes to Beijing and Shanghai. Virgin Atlantic ceased flights to Shanghai for 14 days from February 1
Russia suspended visa-free tourist travel to China and temporarily blocked Chinese citizens from reaching Russia over the Mongolian border.
It will also stop processing documents for Chinese nationals to enter Russia for jobs, along with permits to hire workers from China. Visa-free travel was part of an agreement the two nations worked out in 2018.
