China Southern has recently changed its policy on refunding tickets to cater for passengers whose visa applications have been rejected.

If a passenger has purchased refundable tickets, then they can go to any China Southern branch at least one day before departure with the visa application reject letter, a photocopy of their passport and their flight ticket. If the refund is requested on the day of departure, the airline will charge a service fee.

If the passenger has a non-refundable ticket then the passenger must visit a branch with the same documents at least six or seven days before departure, depending on their ticket type. For non-refundable tickets a service fee will be charged.

The new policy should release passengers from high service charges on refunding long haul flight tickets when visa applications are rejected.

Passengers should follow the terms and conditions of their tickets if they wish to refund after departure. The new policy only affects long international routes from Europe, America, Oceania and the Middle East. Flight destinations in Asia and group tickets are not applicable for the new policy.
