    Social Enterprise / Marketing Coordinator

    French-Chinese NGO Shanghai Young Bakers is looking for a dynamic, internationally-minded Marketing Coordinator to lead the strategic development of our social enterprise program and promote our commercial bakery activities.

    The organisation – Shanghai Young Bakers (SYB)

    Shanghai Young Bakers (SYB) is a charity program providing a fully-sponsored training in traditional French bakery and pastry to underprivileged Chinese youth aged 17 to 23, enabling them to find qualified jobs and lead independent lives after graduation.

    Launched in February 2009, sponsored by Carrefour Foundation and other corporations, SYB’s one-year training combines intensive classes in both French and Chinese bakery, with practical internships at 4&5-star hotels. After completing the program, the 30 students can then obtain employment opportunities in bakeries or hotels in Shanghai and all across China.

    In order to increase its financial stability, since end 2011 SYB operates a social enterprise program, that offers half-day bakery classes, bread & pastry catering, and technical consulting services to individuals and companies wishing to contribute to the success and sustainability of the program. Today, 20% of our charity program’s financial needs are covered by the profits made by the social enterprise activities. We hope to increase this part to 50% by 2017.

    SYB is managed by a small and dynamic French-Chinese team, and operates under the governance of Chi Heng Foundation.

    The Position – Marketing Coordinator

    The Marketing Coordinator will be in charge of defining our social enterprise’s strategy together with the SYB team, and leading all commercial operations, by promoting our revenue-generating services and coordinating related requests, activities and deliverables.

    Main responsibilities:

    1. Promote and increase SYB’s commercial services

    · Define SYB’s marketing strategy and objectives, together with SYB Program Manager

    · Strengthen and develop range of SYB commercial offers. Currently, these include:

    - public bakery/pastry classes for individuals, families or children

    - social teambuilding bakery classes for company staff

    - customised bakery and pastry catering for private or corporate events

    - student bread baskets and cake boxes subscriptions

    - sale of student products at weekend farmers markets

    - technical consulting services (recipe development, F&B staff training)

    · Establish a bi-yearly action plan, together with SYB team

    · Design and disseminate promotional material (flyers, catalogue, webpage…)

    · Engage social media and networks (weibo, weixin, facebook, online forums)

    · Lead targeted search for potential clients and sales outlets

    2. Coordinate commercial activities

    · Act as the contact point for all commercial enquiries

    · Provide customer service: calculate quotes, explain options, finalise orders in client’s and SYB’s best interest

    · Coordinate engagements with SYB bakery teachers

    · Welcome participants and provide Chinese-English translation throughout the commercial bakery/pastry classes

    · Organise registration at relevant weekend markets

    · Train and coordinate volunteers to help out at markets and in other appropriate functions

    3. Monitor financial returns

    · Verify costs, profits, and calculate teachers’ bonuses, for each product and activity

    · Issue debit notes/ receipts to clients, keep track of orders and receivables, chase payments when needed

    · Review monthly financial figures together with SYB management; assist with related financial analysis and administrative processes whenever required

    Position requirements:

    · Good understanding of the social enterprise model; passion to bring sustainable commercial solutions to support a growing NGO

    · Native level in Chinese, fluent in English (especially oral English).

    · Knowing French will be a Str0ng advantage. Candidates eager to learn or improve their French are warmly encouraged to apply.

    · Able to communicate and interact in a professional and pleasant manner, especially in a cross-cultural context

    · Creative and realistic approach to delivering solutions

    · Sensitive to market demands, attentive to trends in civic engagement and social responsibility

    · Experience in prioritising multiple tasks, organising activities, paying attention to detail

    · Comfortable working in a small, fast-paced and international environment

    · Enthusiasm for traditional Western bakery and pastry, and for French culture; familiarity with French-style breads and cakes

    · Enjoy teamwork as well as autonomy

    · Interest in developing hands-on experience in social entrepreneurship, as well as skills in marketing, languages, MS Excel

    Work conditions:

    · Work within a small, dynamic, French-Chinese team led by a French program manager, in close partnership with committed bakery trainers (=SYB graduates who have trained in France), as well as with volunteers from different nationalities and backgrounds

    · Location:

    o Office work in city centre: Chi Heng Foundation Shanghai office (西康路长寿路)

    o Events/classes: SYB Baking Centre (普陀区绥德路)

    o Outside meetings & events around town to be expected

    · This assignment can be taken on either as an internship (6 months minimum), and/or can evolve as a full-time paid employment for successful candidates ready to commit for at least one year.

    · Transportation and phone reimbursement allowance (500RMB/month).

    · Bonuses will be granted based on candidate’s success in increasing the direct profits from the SYB commercial activities.
