Kellian Adams

Kellian Adams hails from Boston,USA and has been swing dancing since 1998. Kellians "swing career" includes the co-founding of Shanghaiswings! As well as the founding of SKS, shanghai's first University dance organization. Since her arrival in Shanghai in 2002, she has taught dance throughout Shanghai and been featured on CityBeat, City Weekend, and CCTV's Style Watch. Kellian's dance background includes theater dance, jazz and ballet, which she has studied since she was a child but swing is her only true dance love. "Swing dance is such a joyful dance" says Kellian. "It's pure positive energy, you can't swing dance and be in a bad mood." Swing dance is a fast-paced American partner dance from the 1930's until the 1950's, danced mostly to jazz and big band swing music, although as it is an early precurser to hiphop, swing can also be danced to hip hop and more modern music. The name "swing" doesn't originate from actual "swinging" side to side, but from the relaxed nature of big band jazz as well as the "push and pull" movements between dance partners. Swing dance is a fun, exciting and truly great social dance that preserves an important era in human history.
